The 6th Group, often referred to as the 6th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), is a key component of the United States Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC). This elite unit is primarily tasked with providing aviation support for special operations forces in various environments and scenarios. The 6th Group operates a diverse fleet of rotary-wing aircraft, including MH-47G Chinooks, MH-60LM Black Hawks, and MQ-1 Predators. Established in 1983, the 6th Group's mission includes special operations aviation support for unconventional warfare, direct action, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, and security force assistance operations worldwide. The group is headquartered at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with additional detachments stationed elsewhere to facilitate global deployment capabilities.
